i've been given warning letters for exceeding the speed limit of 60km/h along upper thomson road..anyone who drives along that stretch would know 60km/h can be rather trying on the patience of both the 60km/h-driver and the ones who follow behind a 60km/h-driver. i've thought about this thing about speed limits and i was reminded of a story/lesson i'd learnt way back during london days - might have been word alive, or just one of the sunday sermons:
imagine a traffic police officer chasing and flagging down a speeding car, explaining the importance of keeping to the speed limit and giving the driver a speeding ticket. the traffic police officer notes the car plate number. and a day later, the officer happens to spot the same car and flags it down again. the driver of the car looks perturbed cos he is not speeding this time. the officer just wants to praise the driver for following the law. the driver scoffs at the officer and retorts that he doesn't care about the law. he just feels like driving slowly that day.
we as humans tend to be like this with regard to Your laws/ statutes. it is a human condition to desire to do things our way.. we think "i don't really care what the bible says (no christian would say that outright, but You searches the deep thoughts of man).. i just want to live a meaningful life and to me that is to be a good person, live my life to the fullest and make an impact in the world" but the harsh reality is that sin is disobedience to You.. I could be the kindest, most loving person (to the best of my human capacity), but lived according to my own rules - I would essentially be the god of my own life.. and a life lived apart from an acknowledgement of the lordship of Christ will be judged, even though the actions are noble in the eyes of man..
